Membership in the Melbourne Aikido dojo community
Membership
at our dojo is very different from a gym, sports club or other such
associations. Learning about the unique type of relationship we have
with our dojo is an important part of development for the martial
artist. The Martial artist does not pay membership in
exchange for a service. Instead membership gives the person the right
to participate in the activities of the school and belong to its
community.
Traditionally
in Japan, the dojo community is a strong network of members who come
together and support the dojo to which they belong. The group mentality
of Japan has not yet found its way deeply in Western culture. It is for
this reason that the unique dojo community has much to offer the
western practitioner. Membership rights and responsibilities at our
dojo are in line with rules and values of a traditional Japanese dojo -
without cultural comprimise to give a truly authentic dojo experience.
Being
a member of the dojo gives you the right to participate in classes,
seminars, social events, public demonstrations, weekend retreats, Japan
training trips and special member events.
Please note: Memberships are strictly limited in number (junior & senior). New members are welcome to apply.
